The Free Civilians website published an important strategy document of peace movement in Ukraine, which we would like to make known to our readers.
Statement of Pacifists on the Need to Strengthen Nonviolent Resistance to War in the Face of Threats of World War and Other Violations of International Law
Terror against Ukraine with the use of ballistic missiles, the continuation of a brutal aggressive war, murder and destruction, millions of people without electricity, water, and heating. This barbarity is the result of the Putin regime’s desire to be a great power.
Other governments of the world are also obsessed with the totalitarian cult of militaristic sovereignty. Everywhere now, in unhealthy fever, they are spending crazy money on the manufacture of a grotesque quantity of instruments of murder, capable of turning every corner of the Earth into a suffering Ukraine or, even worse, destroying humanity in a nuclear war.
While leaders of nations abuse sovereign rights, preparing for something terrible, peoples must not give in to the spread of the dumb sentiments of world war.
It is enough for the evil spirit of militarism to wander everywhere; we will not let it into our homes and our hearts.
It is the duty of civil society in every corner of our common planet to resist nonviolently all war, propaganda of war, preparations for war, and all forms of militaristic oppression.
We will not allow governments to forget international law. We will insist that the obligation of peaceful conflict resolution under the UN Charter requires, but is far from limited to, tireless diplomatic efforts to end all ongoing wars and to prevent war, the escalation of war, and other cruelties.
The peaceful resolution of conflicts requires the widespread and daily strengthening of institutions of peace at all levels, from local to universal, for the successful nonviolent resistance to all manifestations of war or preparations for war.
Every state has the obligation to establish and strengthen institutions of nonviolent resistance to war and to promote the broad involvement of people in peaceful action.
Every person has the right to a social and international order free from war and militaristic threats to democracy.
Every person has the right to join the global nonviolent resistance to war, not to support any war and not to participate in waging wars.
